Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University is performing research on virtual trade fairs (also referred to as “virtual trade shows”). The research comes out of the school’s “Entrepreneurship and New Business Venturing” Masters program.
Details on The Research
Key Question: “Which factors determine whether the relatively new phenomenon of virtual trade fairs is accepted as a new technology or not?”
We’ve been in touch with the primary investigator behind this research. He provided the following details:
“I want to investigate the attitude of entrepreneurs/managers/others towards a relatively new phenomenon: ‘virtual trade fairs’. Current developments in information technology, but also the current economic situation, contribute to the fact that virtual trade fairs are becoming a more cost efficient alternative to traditional exhibitions. Marketing budgets are getting tightened and the costs of having a booth at a physical trade fair are rising.
Therefore, it could be that virtual exhibitions are going to replace physical fairs, at least to some extent. Or will face-to-face contact always be needed to create trustful and long-term business relations?
Which factors determine whether a relatively new phenomenon as virtual trade fairs are accepted or not? Are there differences between the attitudes of entrepreneurs and managers? Finally, it could be that generational differences will be discovered.”
